As an evolution of Project 418, the Geoscience Cyberinfrastructure for Open Discovery in the Earth Sciences (GeoCODES) platform is being developed under the management of the EarthCube Science Support Office (ESSO) to provide geoscience researchers and geoscience data providers a core, cloud-deployable package of intuitive web-based tools, REST APIs, and registry databases providing data and resource registration, discovery, and access. The GeoCODES system is an integration of four ESSO subawards: Project 418, the Project 418 Graphical User Interface (GUI), the Project 419 Software System Upgrade, and the EarthCube Resource Registry. For geoscience researchers, GeoCODES will allow optimized searches across multi-discipline data providers by text/keyword, spatial features, and time windows enabling direct access to datasets discovered as well as the ability to search for EarthCube resources such as software tools, services, databases, standards, and experts. For geoscience data providers, GeoCODES will offer an easy-to-use mobile and browser app and web services to quickly generate and validate data and organizational metadata using Schema.org and extensions for registration and discoverability in GeoCODES and the Google Dataset Search tool. This breakout session will demonstrate a subset of GeoCODES’ initial capabilities by integrating the system with Python, R, and MATLAB notebooks, other EarthCube projects, and external collaborators and tools to examine example science use cases and workflows.
